Camp Reports — October Deer, Pheasant & Crappie

Highlighting Last Month’s Hunting and Fishing Camps.

By Brad Gill

Growing up as a deer hunter, October was always my favorite month. Cool air finally started slipping into Georgia, and rifle season meant it was time to be in the woods. These days, as director of 30-30 Ministries, I still get fired up for October—but now it’s because it marks the return of what we love most: hosting Christ-centered hunting and fishing Camps.

This past month was a busy one. We hosted five Camps, watched the Lord move in powerful ways, and saw lives changed. Here’s a quick look at what God did in October.

Oct. 2-4: Dooly Co., Ga. Doe Camp: Thirteen Deer Camps in with Harmony Baptist Church, and God is still showing up. One parent texted us afterward and said, “This weekend was on the list of the best experiences my son and I ever had.” That’s exactly why we do this. We wrapped the Gospel around deer hunting, saw several deer hit the dirt, and helped some hard-working south Georgia farmers get rid of a few does in the process.

Oct. 9-11: Emanuel Co., Ga.  Deer Camp: The weather tried to run us off, but it didn’t win. We dodged storms and still put three bucks on the ground. Even better, we celebrated one new follower of Jesus. Our long-time partners, Hawhammock Baptist Church and Flat Creek Lodge, continue to make this an unforgettable weekend year after year.

Oct. 23-25: Lake Oconee, Ga. Crappie Camp:  Try to picture more than 250 crappie coming overboard on Lake Oconee—because that’s exactly what happened. The Lord provided some incredible boat captains who put our campers on fish. We’re grateful for Lakepoint Community Church, not only for partnering with us, but also for inviting our fishing crew to join their 11 a.m. service right after we got off the water.

Oct. 23-25: Linn Co., Ks. Pheasant Camp: Kansas did not disappoint. Roosters flushing, shotguns barking and wide-eyed campers taking it all in. But as good as the hunting was, the real highlight was the deep fellowship and powerful time in God’s Word. Huge thanks to Middle Creek Outdoors for rolling out the red carpet and making us feel at home.

Oct. 23-25: Troup Co., Ga. Deer Camp: In Troup County, the biggest trophy wasn’t hanging on a wall—it was a young man nailing down his salvation in Jesus. He’s now walking in that “peace that surpasses all understanding.”

We’re grateful for our ongoing partnership with Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes and Shayne Goddard, and we were honored to have Realtree’s David Blanton join us and pour into these kids.

Last month, 30-30 Ministries was honored to serve as the keynote speaker for the brothers at Mount Olive Baptist Church during their Men’s Ministry 2nd Annual Outdoor Dinner. We were blessed to meet fellow followers of Christ in Molena, Ga., and these men put on a fantastic event. If you need a speaker for an event, reach out to us at brad@3030ministries.org.

        Sunbelt Ag Expo

A partnership with the Colquitt Co. Baptist Association

For the first time, 30-30 had a booth at the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie. We're thankful for the Colquitt County Baptist Association for allowing us to have a space under their tent. We gave away two spots for an upcoming Camp. Congrats to Gracie Strickland and Brodie Green. Both youth picked Bear Camp 2027.
